A word about the shoot these two little lakes are 'artificial' lakes. They were not really intended to be lakes. They were sandstone quarries for the Communist factory that made the concrete panels for the horrible apartment blocks that the Communists love to erect. They turned into lakes because a river runs past just a hundred meters or so away and the river water seeped into the pits making them lakes. Immediately after the revolution, the factory went bust. As Tomas said, "No body wanted to build those horrible apartment blocks any more." And since that time people from the area have used the lakes for recreation. In fact, the Communist factory cleared out so fast that they left a big digger somewhere in the smaller lake (which we used for this shoot). And it sits, submerged, to this very day.
Tomas and I reconnoitered the lake a few days before we did the shoot. There were quite a few patrons on that day. And that was during the middle of the week. I said, "We'll do this on a Saturday and the place will be packed." For someone in my business, that is not a good situation. You want privacy for the shoots. In the Czech Republic about the only real problem that you'd have is if people thought that you were including them in your shots. In which case, they would get up and move. There is also the problem of gawkers. We did a brief swimming scene at a nude beach in Spain for Andel's Story 2 and the gawkers emerged from the scrubs and were quite aggressive. As a director, you always have to be worried about the prospect of this kind of development.
Brian and Nikko were here from the BoysCondo in Toronto. We were just setting up Prague Buddies. So, they tagged along for the shoot. We rented a big red van and took our shoot vehicle a Fiet Doblo. Marek Gregory drove, Buddy rode in the back, and Brian, Nikko, Jiri the Messenger and I were the passengers. We took the extra vehicle in case the shoot dragged on and we had to hightail it back to Prague in order to get PragueBuddies started on time. As it turned out, we breezed through the shoot, everyone had a great time, except one of the soldiers got a bloody nose from horsing around. We were done shooting in an hour and a half and headed back to Prague. I wish that all shoots went so well. On the way up, I noticed that it was threatening to rain. I said to Brian, "This is a good sign. Because Czech people will not go to the lake unless it is blazing hot without any clouds in the sky. It's a good sign," I said, "unless it actually rains, and then it is a very bad sign."
Luck was with us, because when we arrived at the far end of the lake, one there was virtually no one around, and the sun popped out for almost the entire duration of the shoot, gracing us with much better lighting. Then when we wrapped, the sun went away again, and it started to sprinkle.
Tomas and his brother Stafan live in a little village very near these lakes. They arrived in the family car with their mother and father. Mom and dad took their bicycles off of the the rack on the top of the car and rode home leaving the car for Stafan to drive home. This was really a first for me. The first time that a mother AND father had driven their sons to one of my porno shoots. Only in the Czech Republic. I asked Tomas, "What did you tell your parents?" He said, "That we were working on a photo shoot. My mother said, 'I'll bet that there is nudity.'" Apparently that was all that she said.
Buddy had no idea where we were going. But as soon as he saw the water he went a little bit nuts. He loves the water so much. Before the shoot, I'd hoped that we'd be able to get some good shots of Buddy. At the end of the day, I had nothing to worry about. He was one of the all time worst scenery eaters during this shoot, making sure that he was in the maximum number of shots. And for a very long time he swam back and forth in the background of the players like that shark in Jaws.
I really, really have the hots to get Jiri the Messenger into more dramatic situations. My big dream is to put him and Milan Bartolo together. I was really afraid that he would walk off of the shoot as soon as the sexual horseplay started. Not at all. He joined right in grabbing family jewels and ass grabbing just as much if not more so than the other guys. It was a really good introduction for him, all of that peer action. In fact, as someone has already noted, he and one of the soldiers quite naturally seemed to have an attraction for each other. They played with each other all during the shoot, and then after the shoot. Jiri went to the parking lot, with dozens of cars around and started dropping his drawers for the camera. Then the soldier started playing with his jewels, which Jiri just loved. In fact in one shot, you can see a car actually drive past, just a few feet in the background.
I certainly hope that you enjoy viewing this shoot as much as we did making it. They are always to do. Too bad that the summers in these part are so short and rainy.
